About
I started blogging in late 2001, just before joining the Peace Corps and heading off to Nepal (link). Of course, I had no idea what a blog was then, just as people won’t in another ten years. But I’m here, it’s now, and I seem to be on something of a roll.

Trying to blog from the hot, flatlands of Nepal during the blazing summers with eratic electricity and lacking Internet connections probably led me here: minimalism in blog design.
I was mainly blogging then for my own enjoyment, and so being able to sit back for a moment and feel satisfied was rather hard to do with a 120KB banner image on a 24.4 modem.
After nearly three years of that exhausting struggle, I came back to the US and knew a thing or two about blogging. I moved over from Blogger to WordPress and began learning a little PHP. And suddenly I decided to make my first theme available for download, veryplaintxt. Another followed and so on.
I’ve decided to focus my play-time with WordPress into seeing how minimal I can make a public blog theme. Sure, give me a white background and black text and I’m set. The question is: Is minimalism design appealing to anyone but designers? Well, I think so. Because I am no designer.
