Barecity, one of the best minimalist themes for WordPress
One of the best minimalist themes available for WordPress that is truly minimalist. Nothing is in excess and everything has a place. Barecity, in my opinion, is one of the best minimalist themes available.

It’s beautiful, the only thing that worries me is that it’ll burn someone’s eyes out if they maximize the window and read for more than a few minutes.
Yes, I sort of agree. I also wish it was fluid or at least had an elastic width, but it doesn’t. I like Barecity, a lot actually, but I do wish it was slightly larger or at least more flexible. It’s a rather 1.5-ish theme.
amazing simplicity… massive thanks!
Is it possible to add an advertising header banner to this theme? I’m a bit of a newbie in terms of coding… could you give me some direction? Thanks so much for your time and a beautifully simple theme.
I have been using blogger for some time and have finally decided to move to WordPress for many reasons not to be specified here.
Spent many weeks making the the page on my current blog to work the way I wanted and was concerned that I would have to spend much more customizing a template for wordpress.
After trying to first work with the Kubrik layout I stumbled on a thread that contained a quote “working with the kubrik layout is difficult.” Then I found this page. I first tried the Burfield layout only to discover that it did not support widgets and a series of other oddities that I knew would frustrate me to no end in terms of trying to customize it. But to its credit it was much easier to edit then Kubrick.
I just downloaded Barecity and after about 6 or 7 adjustments to some very clear and concise css code using CSSEdit I was happy.
My girlfriend has a little black and white bag with cute piggie illustrations on it that she uses to carry her digital camera. In one of the squares where there is no piggie it says ’simple is best.’ In this case I could not agree more.
Thanks for the posts and the recommendations.
dumb dumb question here…
how do you add categories underneath your categories?? I’ve dragged my category widget to my sidebar but it only gives me the name of it and an “uncategorized” link under it?
Suuuch a stupid question i know but I’m a massive newbie.
